Partnering with Forum Group Events from the initial competitive pitch, BE-design secured the account for South African Tourism and retained the client for a highly successful 13-year tenure. Spanning both Australia and New Zealand, this enduring collaboration delivered high-impact, multi-sensory immersive experiences across all major capital cities. BE-design spearheaded the overarching Strategy and Creative Direction, touring with the events to oversee live spatial production and design execution.

The Strategic Mandate: Transforming Perspectives

A core objective of South African Tourism’s strategy in the Australasian market was to actively reshape consumer mindsets. BE-design was tasked with a critical creative challenge: confront and disassemble deep-seated, superficial stereotypes and assuage consumer anxieties surrounding travel safety.

The strategic focus was to reframe the destination in the minds of Australian and New Zealand audiences—repositioning South Africa not just as a thrilling long-haul option, but as an exceptionally safe, deeply sophisticated, and culturally rich world-class environment.

The Creative Approach

To turn this strategy into a physical reality, BE-design executed a deep creative dive into the authentic cultural fabric of South Africa—exploring its idiosyncratic design languages, spaces, rituals, culinary traditions, and unique human stories.

By translating these vibrant cultural nuances into striking, premium physical environments, we bypassed predictable tourist tropes. We designed sophisticated spatial narratives that allowed guests to feel the warmth, security, and contemporary energy of the nation firsthand, building genuine emotional connection and trust.
